Brother Peters to Deliver Keynote at 555th Parachute Infantry Association Southeastern Region AssemblyThe 555th Parachute Infantry Association
The 555th Parachute Infantry Association will convene its 6th Annual Southeastern Region Assembly, honoring the proud heritage of the legendary “Triple Nickel”—America’s pioneering all‑Black parachute infantry unit. This year’s keynote speaker, Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Dr. Timothy B. Peters, embodies the same courage, intellect, and leadership that defined the original 555th.
🎖 A Distinguished Soldier-Scholar

LTC Dr. Peters has served in the U.S. Army since 2006, leading at every echelon from platoon to brigade across airborne, air assault, sustainment, and joint special operations formations. Commissioned through the University of South Carolina ROTC Program (Benedict College Satellite), he has commanded units in Liberia during the Ebola outbreak and in Kuwait supporting operations across Iraq, Jordan, Egypt, and Lebanon.
A decorated officer, he has earned the Joint Service Medal, multiple Meritorious Service Medals, and commanded a unit awarded the Army Superior Unit Award. His academic record is equally impressive—holding degrees from Benedict College, Trident University, Howard University, and the University of Southern California, where he earned his doctorate in Organizational Change and Leadership.
Currently serving as Dean of Academic Affairs at the Joint Special Operations University (JSOU), Dr. Peters oversees education and institutional development for more than 70,000 personnel across the U.S. Special Operations Command.
🪶 The Legacy of the Triple Nickel
Formed in 1943, the 555th Parachute Infantry Battalion—nicknamed the Triple Nickel—was the first all‑Black airborne unit in U.S. Army history. Though trained for combat in World War II, segregation kept them from overseas deployment. Instead, they were assigned a unique and perilous mission: Operation Firefly, parachuting into remote forest fires caused by Japanese balloon bombs across the American West.
Their bravery and precision under extreme conditions earned them a permanent place in airborne history, paving the way for racial integration in the armed forces and inspiring generations of paratroopers who followed.
🤝 The Association’s Continuing Mission
The 555th Parachute Infantry Association preserves that legacy through education, fellowship, and service. Its regional assemblies bring together veterans, descendants, and supporters to celebrate airborne heritage and advance community initiatives. The Southeastern Region’s annual gathering continues that tradition—honoring sacrifice, leadership, and the enduring spirit of the Triple Nickel.
✨ Looking Ahead
Brother Peters’ keynote promises to connect the battalion’s historic courage with today’s challenges of leadership, diversity, and innovation in military and civilian service. His message will remind attendees that the Triple Nickel’s story is not just history—it’s a living example of excellence, resilience, and unity.
